Because of their partnership with Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College, the Kentucky Electric Cooperatives have established a scholarship fund at the school called the S.K.Y.C.T.C. lineman scholarship.
Later, in 2023, the K.E.C. started talking about giving its new hires a path. This resulted in a scholarship at S.K.Y.C.T.C. for individuals who are currently doing their four-year lineman apprenticeship with the state.
About The Lineman Scholarship at S.K.Y.C.T.C.
The initiative began with a $100,000 inaugural endowment, to which the K.E.C. contributed $50,000 and S.K.Y.C.T.C. matched to create the fund. A percentage of the sales proceeds from the “lineman specialty plate” will go toward funding the scholarship, which helps to maintain and finance the College’s associate’s degree program in applied science.

In 1939, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (S.K.Y.C.T.C.) was founded with the joint support of Western Kentucky State Teachers College and the National Youth Administration (NYA). The College functioned as a NYA training center and was once known as the Western Trade School.
About The Organization
During World War II, the school trained soldiers, industrial workers, and armed forces members. After the war, the federal government allowed the State Department of Education/Bureau of Vocational Education and Western KY State Teachers College access to the building so that it could be utilized as a neighborhood trade school.
Following a resolution passed by the Kentucky General Assembly, the institution was renamed the Western Area Vocational Institution and became independent of Western Kentucky University (W.K.U.) in 1962.
When the school moved to its current location in 1968, it was renamed Bowling Green Area Vocational School. Two further buildings were added in 1973 and 1982, bringing the total training area to over 177,000 square feet.
It also shows an intricate cost of over $6,100,000 for structures and over $3,500,000 for supplies and equipment. The institution was later renamed the Bowling Green Regional Technology Centre in 1996.
Bowling Green Regional Technology School became a part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System after the Post-Secondary Education Improvement Act of 1997 (House Bill 1) was passed. After that, Bowling Green Technical College replaced the original name.
Since then, the College has become a Comprehensive Community and Technical College offering associate’s degrees in the arts and sciences. It also now includes campuses in Franklin, Kentucky, and the Transpark. In 2012, the institution changed its name to Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College.
